Why is a water filter necessary?
Tap water must adhere to standards that allow a certain level of contaminants. This can be seen as a compromise by some. If you desire high-quality drinking water without compromise, an additional filter is necessary in your home. The miles of plumbing pipes are not sterile and can harbor microbes. To address this, water treatment facilities add chlorine compounds to the water. Even if these chemicals successfully neutralize the microbes, the dead microbes and the chemicals themselves can end up in the water you drink. Berkey ® can remove microbial residues, as well as chlorine and other pollutants, making the water you drink safer and more enjoyable.
In cases like the one in Michigan, USA, supposedly clean and potable water was heavily contaminated with lead.

Which of the listed contaminants would you not want to remove at a rate of 99% or more?
Does Berkey® remove chlorine, fluoride, and heavy metals?
Yes. The standard Black Berkey® filter elements (which are included in the box with the unit) remove chlorine and fluoride, as well as heavy metals, including arsenic, from the water. Additionally, if the water is fluoridated (which is not the case in Croatia) or heavily burdened with arsenic or similar substances (this is the case in some parts of the world), there are additional white fluoride/arsenic filters available for ordering from us.
Is the Berkey® filter actually a carbon filter?
No, carbon filters do not have such filtration power or longevity. Berkey® utilizes multiple filtration mechanisms, with microfiltration being just one of them, similar to a carbon filter. That's why the filtration efficiency is revolutionary, and the lifespan of a pair of filters is declared to be up to 22,000 liters of purified water, which translates to several years without further investment in drinking water.
How to determine which device size is right for me?
According to the average water requirement over a 24-hour period. Choose a device that you will fill to the top at least every 1-2 days (for optimal performance of the Black Berkey® filter elements, it is best to fill the upper chamber to the top). It is not recommended to choose a device in which the water will sit for days before being consumed or one that you will never fill to the top.
What connections are required for installation?
No electricity or water connections are required, and no tools are needed for installation.
Is it necessary to take any additional parts for use?
No, everything necessary for use comes in the device's box and is included in the device's price.
Does the Berkey® filter remove scale deposits from water?
No, the device is designed to retain some beneficial minerals in the water from Berkey that can cause deposits in appliances such as irons and similar devices. Minerals are necessary to prevent the water from being hypotonic, which would make it unsuitable for long-term use, especially for babies or older individuals. Hypotonic water draws minerals from the body, so it is essential for health that the water we consume contains electrolytes. Due to these minerals that can accumulate and affect parts of the device (not the articles), it is necessary to clean it with vinegar at least every 1-2 months.
Is it necessary to periodically invest in the device?
No, except for regular cleaning (like washing dishes that hold food) and priming the filter elements, which should be done once every month or two.
I have not regularly cleaned the Black Berkey® element, and now its bottom part is coated with limescale. Is there any way to remove it?
If you haven't scrubbed the surface of the element and performed priming every 30-60 days, you can clean the surface using a wet abrasive cloth with a grit size of 180 (available at paint and varnish stores). Gently scrub the surface by hand until black particles start to appear, being careful not to excessively damage the surface of the element. Limescale is colorless, but the appearance of black color indicates that you have reached the surface of the element, and that is sufficient.
Can I test the functioning of the device using an egg dye?
No, do not test it with any other dye except the one provided by your distributor. The dye must be food-grade, pure chemical red dye, free from mineral pigments that the device may allow through, as well as free from additives that could clog the device, which are commonly found in food dyes available in stores. DO NOT TEST BLACK BERKEY® ELEMENTS WITH DYE UNTIL YOU REMOVE THE WHITE FLUORIDE/ARSENIC ELEMENTS FROM THE DEVICE!!!
Is it necessary to purchase the stainless steel spigot that you offer?
No, the devices come with a plastic faucet without BPA, and the internal sealing element is made of silicone. Stainless steel spigots look great, but the standard plastic spigot is already included in the box with each device. Stainless steel spigots do not have a spring and do not automatically close; you need to manually return them to the closed position. Additionally, a sight glass spigot cannot be attached to the existing spigot. Sight glass spigots can have a plastic faucet or be entirely made of stainless steel, but they are purchased separately.
What kind of water can Berkey® purify?
It can filter tap water and treated or untreated water (lake, river, stream). Do not filter saltwater or seawater, as well as water from water softening devices.
How acceptable is Berkey Light® considering the material it is made of?
Berkey Light ® is made of PET 1 material, which does not contain BPA. Bottles for commercially available drinking water are also made of the same material.

At New Millennium Concepts, Ltd., we strive to ensure that our customers are informed about water filtration. This allows you, as customers, to make an informed decision about something as important as the water you drink. Since water filtration is a complex scientific topic, we will try to use terms that are familiar to everyone whenever possible to make the explanations easier to understand. Several methodologies are employed in the production of Black Berkey® filter elements.
MICROFILTRATION
Berkey® purification elements are composed of a unique system of six different types of supports, assembled in a very compact matrix that contains millions of microscopic pores. These pores are so small that they produce what we can call a "tortuous path". Pathogenic bacteria, cysts, parasites, herbicides, pesticides, organic solvents, VOCs, detergents, cloudiness, sediment and sedimentary minerals, foul tastes and odors must pass through it. But these channels are so small that these pollutants cannot physically pass through them and are therefore trapped and removed from your drinking water. This process is called microfiltration.
ADSORPTION AND ABSORPTION
The media used in water filters has unique adsorption and absorption properties. Adsorption is a surface phenomenon whereby atoms, ions or molecules become attached to a solid surface. An ionic barrier similar to surface tension is created, allowing the tiny pores to block water contaminants smaller than their own size. This blocking process allows the Berkey® water filter to remove submicron viruses, which other water filters are unable to do without the use of chemicals such as iodine or chlorine.
Heavy metal ions (mineral molecules) such as cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, aluminum and other hazardous heavy metals are removed from the water by an ion exchange process whereby they are attracted and transformed by electrically bonding to the media.
FLOW RATE
Berkey® water filters are extremely effective at removing contaminants from water due to an extremely long "contact period". Other systems rely on water pressure to force water molecules through the filter elements at pressures between 4 and 6 bar. These water molecules come into contact with the filter media for only a fraction of a second. In comparison, water molecules passing through the Black Berkey® element structure are pushed gently by gravity and remain in contact with the media for a long period of time. This allows the filter media to be more effective in capturing contaminants. This advanced technology has been developed, refined and proven over many years of research and testing by water purification specialists, researchers and engineers. The flow rate or exposure time through the Black Berkey® purification elements has been calculated to achieve the greatest possible removal of potential contaminants from your water, regardless of the source.

Svaki uređaj dolazi s dva Black Berkey filter članka. Svaki članak ima kapacitet 11.000 litara. Par članaka može trajati do 22 000 litara pročišćene vode. Go Berkey dolazi s jednim člankom. Članci se prodaju samo u paru. Black Berkey sadrži patentiranu formulaciju materijala koji mogu filtrirati puno više vode od filtera na bazi aktivnog ugljena. Članci se mogu održavati, tj. povratno ispirati vodom pod pritiskom na slavini s tekućom vodom.
Dodatni članci postavljeni u predviđena mjesta na uređaju povećavaju protok uređaja, tj. brzinu filtracije.

Berkey PF-2™Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements
Standard Black BerkeyTM filter elements that come in the box with each unit will remove heavy metals as well as fluoride compounds. However, for water that is more than "normally" burdened with heavy metals, especially arsenic, or is fluoridated (in some parts of the world), additional white PF-2TM fluoride/arsenic filter elements are added to the existing Black Berkey® ffilter elements by screwing them onto the stems of the Black Berkey® elements. These filters are positioned upside down, located in the lower container, typically submerged in pre-filtered water.

Ova slavina ima integriranu staklenu cijev koja seže do vrha donje posude uređaja. Prema zakonu spojenih posuda, visina vode u donjoj posudi uređaja biti će u razini stupca vode u staklenoj cijevi. U svakoj kutiji s Berkey ® uređajem nalazi se i crna plastična slavina sa silikonskim brtvenim elementima iznutrima.
Ova slavina od nehrđajućeg čelika može se postaviti umjesto uobičajene, crne slavine. Ukoliko planirate ugraditi pokazivač razine sa staklenom cjevčicom, ova inox slavina nije s njom kompatibilna. Pokazivači razine imaju svoju plastičnu crnu slavinu.
Inox slavina prikladna je za sve metalne Berkey uređaje, osim Go Berkey TM koji nema slavinu.

Ukoliko uređaj postavite nasred stola, nećete moći podmetnuti čašu.
